My device sits on the Waiting Connection screen
This is caused by your HA server not connecting to the device. Check the following things:
- The entry in the VACA integration in HA is not disabled
- If your device has changed IP address, HA will no longer be able to find it. Delete the instance in Devices & Services -> View Assist Companion App integration and you should see a discovered device to re-add
- If you HA server has changed IP. The device is pair to the first HA server that connected to it to prevent connection from other servers by error. You need to unpair the device by selecting this from the cog menu.
When VACA connects it cannot load my dashboard
We see a lot of people who have setup SSL or put some sort of proxy in front of their HA server have an issue with this. When this setup was done, the local network URL parameter should have been changed in the HA config to reflect the new address of your HA server. It is often a step that seems to have been skipped as it does not impact your general HA use much. However, VACA uses that to know how to load your dashboard so, goto Settings -> System -> Network and ensure your local network URL setting reflects what should be the address in the browser address bar to connect to your HA instance.
My device does not detect the wake word well / my mic level is very low in detect mode
It is a common misconception (when looking at the diagnostics overlay) that a mic level of 1-2 when saying the wake word is causing you a problem with detection. In all our testing this has not been the case (and we test on most of the devices that people complain about this issue on). It is also a misconception that adjusting the gain should improve the perceived issue. This is not the case.
Please read the diagnostics page for an explanaition of the mic level. We also find that the majority of issues with wake word detection are caused by the choice of wake word and the accent of the person. We rely on the wake words trained by the OpenWakeWord team and they can be very variable in quality of non english speaking accents. We find that Hey Jarvis is the best wake word by far for all round detection, so try with that one and see how you get on.
