This project was bourne out of a need to make the barrier to entry to the View Assist project lower to appeal to a wider audience. It will however work without View Assist but the below is a guide to how it works with it.

View Assist Companion App (VACA) is a voice, music and display engine for Home Assistant first and foremost. However, a number of the features were built to support the needs of View Assist.

It provides the necessary deciphered audio commands to support the custom senstences in the VA blueprints and provide a browser view on Home Assistant to allow View Assist to display its dashboard views and navigate screens. It also provides a display id for use with VA.

Without a View Assist device configuration, VACA will only load to the default HA dashboard. It is the View Assist configuration that navigates from this default dashboard to the clock screen and displays the different views based on commands and automations.

Our roadmap does contain a even more simplified setup of View Assist when using this View Assist Companion App, but for the time being, ensure that once you have setup your VACA device and have the default dashboard displaying on the screen, you then also set it up in View Assist.
